Myles Johnson tossed seven shutout innings against San Joaquin Delta
Pitchers Myles Johnson (Katella HS) and Cade Sonoqui (Long Beach Millikan HS) combined for a five-hit shutout, as the Cerritos College baseball team recorded a 4-0 win over visiting San Joaquin Delta College on Friday. The win was the fourth in a row for the Falcons (4-1), who have already posted a pair of shutouts on the season. Cerritos will host a team to be determined at noon on Saturday.

The game was scoreless through the first five innings until the Falcons scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Anthony Bassett drove in the game's first run with an RBI double Freshman outfielder Isaiah Rios (St. John Bosco HS) led off with a walk and advanced to second base when the throw from Mustangs pitcher Michael Banderas was off-line on a sacrifice bunt attempt from sophomore shortstop DJ Massey (Gahr HS/Central Arizona College). Sophomore third baseman Anthony Bassett (Colegio Bautista de Managua, Nicaragua/Los Angeles Harbor College/pictured, left) drove in the first run of the game with an RBI double, while sophomore outfielder Marlon Oviedo (Colegio Parroquial San Rafael N#1, Nicaragua/Los Angeles Harbor College) drove in Bassett with a bunt that went for an RBI single.

With a runner at third base, sophomore outfielder Nico Briones (Long Beach Millikan HS) brought home a run on an infield out, with the final run coming on a wild pitch, as Oviedo raced home from second base.

Johnson (1-1) limited San Joaquin Delta to just four hits in seven innings of work. He got Mateo Garcia to ground out to end the third inning with runners on first and second, while a pick-off of Joe Barnhardt cut him down at first base to end any kind of threat.

With a runner at third base and two outs in the sixth inning, Dom Rodriguez lined out to Briones in left field to end the inning. Johnson finished the game with four strikeouts.

Sonoqui surrendered a two-out double in the ninth inning, but pinch-hitter Logan Drummond struck out to end the game.

Bassett finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, while freshman catcher Alonso Reyes (Culver City HS) went 2-for-4. Rios also reached base three times, thanks to a pair of walks and a hit by pitch.
