After a resurgent season where the Cerritos College baseball team was one win away from advancing to the 3C2A State Championships, two more members of their team have committed to four-year colleges. Sophomore outfielders Marlon Oviedo (Colegio Parroquial San Rafael N#1, Nicaragua/Los Angeles Harbor College) and Anthony Bassett (Colegio Bautista de Managua, Nicaragua/Los Angeles Harbor College) will be playing next season at Faulkner University, an NAIA college in Montgomery, AL.

Bassett, a 2nd Team All-South Coast Conference selection, led the team with a .324 batting average and 16 doubles, while he also added two home runs and 30 RBI. His RBI total was third on the team and was one of three players to draw 30 walks. Bassett had an 11-game hitting streak during the year and recorded 17 multiple-hit games, which included four games where he had three hits. In the eight playoff games, Bassett went 9-for-32 with five walks and four RBI. He had a .941 fielding percentage and played a role in nine double plays.

As for Oviedo, he appeared in 41 games this season for the Falcons and started 12 of the last 13 games in centerfield. He batted .213 on the season with four doubles, a triple and 12 RBI. He drove in three runs in the Falcons playoff win over Long Beach City College and had another two-hit game against the Vikings in South Coast Conference play. Oviedo drove in six of his runs through the first four games of the season, which included a three-run double against Los Angeles Pierce College. Oviedo had a .981 fielding percentage and committed just one error all season.

They will join an Eagles team with went 37-17 on the year and won the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship while earning a berth in the NAIA Tournament. They won their first two games before a pair of losses to Georgia Gwinnett College ended their season.

Oviedo and Godfrey join Franky Lopez (Utah Valley University), DJ Massey (Utah Valley University) and Alonso Reyes (UC Irvine), who have already signed with four-year colleges.
