The duo of freshmen Juan Garcia (Narbonne HS) and Jack Kamalski (Edison HS) combined to limit Los Angeles Pierce College to just four hits, as the Cerritos College baseball team posted a 7-0 win at Kincaid Field on Wednesday afternoon. The win was the third in a row for the Falcons (3-1), who are slated to host San Joaquin Delta College at 1:00 p.m. on Friday in the second game of the SoCal Challenge, weather permitting.

Garcia, who spent the first three games of the season at first base, allowed the Brahmas (1-1) two hits in six innings of work. He struck out six and walked just one batter. After allowing a leadoff double to Aaron Ruvalcaba in the second inning, he cut him down at third base on a ground ball back to the mound off the bat of Dylan Shu. Two other runners reached second base with one out, but Garcia was able to retire the next two batters to get out of the innings. As for Kamalski, he earned a save in his first appearance of the season with three quality innings. He gave up two hits and struck out four batters including the final two with the bases loaded in the eighth inning.

At the plate, Cerritos was able to do most of their damage with two outs. In the bottom of the second inning, freshman second baseman Dylan Immel (El Segundo HS) slapped out a single and advanced to third base on a double from sophomore shortstop DJ Massey (Gahr HS/Central Arizona College). Sophomore infielder Anthony Bassett (Colegio Bautista de Managua, Nicaragua/Los Angeles Harbor College) was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for sophomore outfielder Marlon Oviedo (Colegio Parroquial San Rafael N#1, Nicaragua/Los Angeles Harbor College). He jumped on the first offering from Nicholas Tomack-Villalobos and laced a three-run double into the left-center field gap.

Sophomore first baseman Mike Santos (Servite HS) drove in the fourth run of the games with a two-out single that plated sophomore Nico Briones (Long Beach Millikan HS), who singled and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Immel led off with a single, while Massey drew a walk. Bassett drove home Immel with a double, with Briones bringing in the second run of the inning on a sacrifice fly. A wild pitch brought home Bassett with the final run of the game in the eighth inning.

Immel finished the game 3-for-4, while Briones, Santos and Bassett each had a pair of hits in the win.
