Freshman catcher Alonso Reyes (Culver City HS), who was tasked with working with the pitchers this season, has committed to UC Irvine. The transfer from Cal State Long Beach will have three years of playing eligibility remaining for the Anteaters (43-12), who are competing in the NCAA Regionals. They were looking for replacements for two graduating catchers.

Reyes, who also saw time at third base, batted .284 on the season and finished in the top four with the Falcons in hits (52), runs (39), doubles (13), triples (3), home runs (3), RBI (41) and walks (31). During the playoffs, Reyes batted .314 (11-for-35) with two doubles, a triple and seven RBI. He posted a trio of three-hit games and finished second on the team with 19 extra-base hits.

Behind the plate, Reyes threw our 14 potential basestealers and committed just three errors (.991 fielding percentage).

Reyes is also the first Falcon to sign with UC Irvine since Bill Sears in 1986.

This is the third commitment for the Falcons, as starting pitcher Franky Lopez (Dominguez HS) and shortstop DJ Massey (Gahr HS/Central Arizona College) have already signed with Utah Valley University. Lopez finished the season with a 12-0 record and 1.88 ERA, while Massey bated .280 with 22 stolen bases and 52 runs scored.
