After allowing East Los Angeles College to score a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, the Cerritos College baseball team responded with six runs in the bottom of the stanza on their way to a 10-2 win on Thursday. The win was the 13th in a row for the Falcons (22-4, 13-1), who will look to complete the sweep over the Huskies (9-15, 2-9) at noon on Saturday in Monterey Park. The winning streak is the longest since the 1995 Cerritos team won 14 in a row.

The Falcons scored their six runs in the bottom of the first inning on only three hits, as they also received four walks from starting pitcher Julian Hernandez. With two outs and a runner on first base, freshman designated hitter Juan Garcia (Narbonne HS) drew a walk. Freshman outfielder Isaiah Rios (St. John Bosco HS) followed with an RBI single before three straight walks plated two more runs. Sophomore outfielder Nico Briones (Long Beach Millikan HS) cleared the bases with a two-run double, while a throwing error allowed the final run to score on the play.

Sophomore starting pitcher Franky Lopez (Dominguez HS) allowed two runs on two hits in the first inning before an out was recorded. He got the next two batters to strikeout and ended the inning on a foul pop-up. The Huskies had runners on base in each of the first five innings, but Lopez (6-0) was able to escape before any damage was done. He recorded the third out of the inning on a strikeout in three of the four innings after the first inning and ended the day with seven punchouts. He was also the beneficiary of double plays in the fifth and seventh innings.

Relief pitcher Cade Sonoqui (Long Beach Millikan HS) tossed the eighth inning, while freshman Jack Kamalski (Edison HS) pitched the ninth inning and ended the game on a strikeout.

Cerritos added a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings to close out the scoring. In the sixth, four straight singles drove in both runs, with sophomore first baseman Mike Santos (Servite HS) and Garcia each collecting RBI hits. Four more walks, along with a pair of wild pitches accounted for the two runs in the seventh inning, with freshman catcher Alonso Reyes (Culver City HS) picking up an RBI with a bases loaded walk.
