It'll be a different looking Cerritos College men's basketball team on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. when they host Copper Mountain College in the 1st Round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Winner of the game will travel to take on #8-seeded San Diego City College, who received a 1st Round bye.

Back on November 30, the Falcons (19-9), who are seeded #9, posted a 90-70 win over the #24-seeded Fightin' Cacti (16-12). In that game Cerritos was led by sophomore Jonathan Salazar (St. John Bosco HS/New Mexico Military Institute CC), who recorded 22 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, but has been lost for the season since suffering an injury on December 30. Three other starters scored in double digits in the game, with Everett May (Los Alamitos HS) and Jalen Shores (Lakewood HS) combining for 31 points and six three-pointers. Sophomore Gorden Boykins (St. Anthony HS), who scored in double figures eight times since the Salazar injury, accounted for 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.

On the year, Shores (13.9 points) has led the way, while the duo of May and freshman Gary Williams (Dominguez HS) each average 8.9 points a game. Boykins records 8.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Williams also paces the team with 6.1 rebounds a game.

As for Copper Mountain, they received 21 points off the bench from Antonio Reviere, while the duo of Larry Holmes and Jack Garrison each added 14 points in the first meeting. Winner of their last two games of the season, the Fightin' Cacti scored a school record 140 points against Palo Verde College in their last contest. A trio of players scored over 20 points, while the team is led by Holmes (13.5 ppg), Jaylon Lee (13.1 ppg) and Garrison (12.6 ppg) on offense, with Lee being their leading rebounder at 9.7 per game.

Tickets for the game will be $12 for General Admission and $8 for Senior Citizens and children 12 and under.
