One of the most versatile players to wear a Cerritos College men's basketball uniform in a long time, Jonathan Salazar (St. John Bosco HS/New Mexico Military Institute CC/Panama), has signed with NCAA Division II powerhouse Virginia Union University. Salazar, who transferred to the Falcons from New Mexico Military Institute CC, was only able to play 15 games until an injury ended his season.

At the time of his injury, Salazar was averaging 13.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists a game. He opened his Cerritos career with a 23-point, 14-rebound effort against Santa Monica College and in his short time with the Falcons produced eight double-doubles, which included a 25-point performance against Pasadena City College, where he connected on 10-of-18 shots. An outside shooting threat, Salazar netted 20 three-pointers in his 15 games, which included four in the game against the Lancers, while he had a trio of three-pointers against Copper Mountain College and MiraCosta College.

He accounted for a season-high 15 caroms against both Ventura College and MiraCosta, while he also dished out a season-high five assists against Copper Mountain.

Salazar will be joining a Panthers team that went 24-8 on the season in 2022-23 and were seeded #1 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA) Tournament. They were upset in the semifinals by #5-seeded Winston-Salem State, 45-44. Virginia Union was still selected to the NCAA Division II Tournament Atlantic Regional, where they opened with a 66-64 win over Fairmont State University. Their season came to and end with a 60-45 loss to top-seeded Indiana (PA) University.

The team is losing five guys to graduation, so Salazar will be looked to fill the role of small forward. The Panthers won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2018.

He's the second Falcons player to sign, as he joins Gorden Boykins, who signed with Lewis & Clark State University.
