M. Swimming & Diving: Second day keeps Falcons in third place

After the second day of the South Coast Conference Championships at Chaffey College, the Cerritos College men's swimming team remains in third place with one more day remaining. The Falcons, who added two third place and two fourth places, have compiled 425 team points and trail only Mt. San Antonio College (495 points) and El Camino College (480). The final day of the championships starts at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The event that earned the most points for the team on the day was the 100-yard breaststroke, as the Falcons compiled 40 team points. Leading the way in the event was freshman Eugene Runas (Long Beach Millikan HS), who came in second place in a time of 58.45. Not far behind was sophomore Joshua Hanein (Warren HS/Stevens Institute of Technology, NJ CC), who placed third with a clocking of 59.25, while freshman Marcus Delgado (La Serna HS) took seventh in a time of 1:01.69.

Freshman Nathan Umpornpuckdi (Kennedy HS) came in third place in the 100-yard butterfly by touching up in 52.44, while freshman teammate Joshua Owens (Kennedy HS) was hot on his heels and came in fourth place in 52.53. Hidalgo placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.41, with sophomore Derek Klotzer (Downey HS) an eighth place finisher in 59.70. Sophomore Kenny deWinstanley (Santa Fe HS) recorded a fifth place time of 4:40.19 in the 400-yard IM, while freshman Jacob Ramsaur (La Serna HS) finished in sixth in 4:48.31.

The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Enrico Hidalgo (Kennedy HS), Runas, Delgado and Owens came in fourth place in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:38.60, while the 800-yard freestyle relay posted a time of 7:43.31 to come in fifth place.
