In their first competition of the season, a quartet of Cerritos College men's swimmers performed well at the Palomar Invitational on Friday. Leading the way was sophomore Marlon Moreno (Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela), whose combined times in the five events was the third best out of 75 swimmers who competed in all of the events. The Falcons will swim in the Waterman Relays at Palomar College on Saturday.

Joining Moreno in the top 10 overall were sophomore Joshua Owens (Kennedy HS), who came in seventh place, along with freshmen Jason Ly (Villa Park HS) and Angel Rojas, who came in ninth and 10th places, respectively.

In the individual races, Owens posted the fifth best time in the 50-yard butterfly at 24.74, with Rojas posting a time of 25.02, good for ninth place out of 82 competitors. Ly swam the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 26.86, which was third overall, with Moreno (27.08) and Owens (27.45), placing fifth and seventh overall, respectively. Sophomore Diego Lucas (Warren HS) turned in a time of 28.41, good for 12th place.

Moreno's time of 28.46 was just shy of the first place time of 27.89 and he settled for third overall, with freshman Daniel Loeza the next Falcon to finish the race, as his time of 31.56 put him in 16th place. In the 50-yard freestyle, Moreno tied for sixth place with a time of 22.72, while Rojas was close behind in eighth place (22.83), with Owens coming in 10th place at 22.89.

The final race was the 100-yard IM, with Moreno's time of 56.98 earning him a third place finish, with Rojas (58.45), Owens (58.48) and Ly (58.69) coming in sixth through eighth places.
