In their South Coast Conference opener, the Cerritos College men's swimming team split their three-team dual meet. Competing at Pasadena City College on Friday, the Falcons defeated the Lancers, 174-92, but dropped a 175-100 decision to Mt. San Antonio College. The team will travel this weekend to the Cuesta Invitational.

The team picked up five first place finishes to help them on the day. In the 50-yard freestyle, freshman Angel Rojas (Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela HS) pulled out a close win with a time of 22.60 and swam a strong 100-yard freestyle to come in third place with a clocking of 49.51. He was edged out for first place by less than a second.

The duo of freshman Jason Ly (Villa Park HS) and sophomore Albert Kim (Cerritos HS) earned points for the Falcons in both of the backstroke races. Ly won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.23, with Kim in second place at 2:13.51. It was a very tight race for first place in the 100-yard backstroke, but Mt. SAC's Philip Wright touched up in 55.53, with Ly in second place at 55.66. Kim was third in the race at 1:00.69.

Sophomore Joshua Owens (Kennedy HS) won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.71 and placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a clocking of 1:55.24. Sophomore Marlon Moreno (Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela HS) earned a third place result in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.25) and a fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (50.25), while sophomore Diego Lucas (Warren HS) was third in the 200-yard IM in 2:16.42.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Ly, Moreno, Rojas and Owens easily won the race in 3:19.76, while the same quartet place second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:41.46. In the 1-meter & 3-meter diving event, freshman Nicholas Silos (Servite HS) won the event with 166.70 points.
