In their first competition of the season, the Cerritos College men's swimming team was in Palomar for the Waterman Festival on Friday. There were several good individual results, which included two top ten finishes. The Falcons will compete in the South Coast Conference Pentathlon next Friday at Pasadena City College.

Highlighting the day was the performance of freshman Sam Turley (La Quinta HS), who led the team in four of the five events. His best result came in the 50-yard freestyle, where his time of 23.34 earned him a sixth place finish. He was a mere .05 of a second behind a pair of swimmers from Riverside City College, who tied for fourth place. Freshman Billy Catton (La Quinta HS) took 18th place in the event with his time of 24.07.

Turley also came in eighth place in the 50-yard backstroke when he touched up in 27.60, which was just 1.34 seconds behind the winning time. In the 100-yard IM, Turley led the Falcons with an 18th place time of 1:00.20, while his clocking of 26.07 put him in 18th place in the 50-yard butterfly. Catton paced the team in the 50-yard breaststroke with a 20th place time of 32.03.
