Hosting their first meet of the season, the Cerritos College men's swimming team was defeated by both of their opponents. The Falcons (0-3) came up short against both Chaffey College (142.50-128.50) and Long Beach City College (145-117) on Friday in a South Coast Conference meet. The team will now travel to El Camino College for a 12:30 conference meet on Friday.

Despite the two losses, Cerritos won four events, with freshman Sam Turley (La Quinta HS) accounting for three of those wins. He started his day with a win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.08, which was three seconds ahead of his closes competition, while his time of 2:11.48 defeated the field by a full five seconds in the 200-yard backstroke. He capped off his day with his closest event, 200-yard IM. Leading from start to finish, Turley posted a time of 2:10.73, which was .60 of a second ahead of second place finisher Tyler Paxton of Chaffey College.

The team's other first place finish came in the first event of the day, the 200-yard medley relay. The Falcons, who comprised the first two finishing teams, were led by sophomore Steven Garcia (Lakewood HS), as well as freshmen Nik Klimpfinger (Los Alamitos HS), Jessy Hernandez (Warren HS) and Raul Muniz (Colbach, Mexico), as they registered a time of 1:10.50. They finished 37 seconds ahead of the second place quartet of Turley, freshman Billy Catton (La Quinta HS), freshman Zach Estrada (St. John Bosco HS) and sophomore Jake Evans (Long Beach Wilson HS) and their time of 1:47.30.

Catton also earned a second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.80), while his time of 2:34.84 put him in a close third place in the 200-yard breaststroke. The first place time came in at 2:32.95, while he was just .61 out of second place. Freshman Dylan Sun (Cerritos HS) was also locked in a tight battle in the 200-yard butterfly. In the hunt from the outset, Sun touched up in 2:34.84, with the winning time of 2:19.78 just out of his reach.
