Hosting the Cerritos Invitational on Friday, the Cerritos College men's track and field team excelled in several different events. The Falcons, who will split their squad next weekend to compete in both the Long Beach State Invitational and the Mt. San Antonio Relays (held at El Camino College), had their best results in the relay races.

In the 1600-meter relay, the quartet of Jahmal King (Bellflower HS), Jhamani Long (Cerritos HS), Clay Green (Los Alamitos HS) and Jaydon Logan (Artesia HS) posted a first place time of 3:14.01. All four also did well in individual events. As for the 400-meter relay team, they came in a close second place with a time of 42.75 and were comprised of Saadiq Jennings (Martin Luther King HS), King, Tyler Coffman (Los Alamitos HS) and Logan.

Logan and Long competed in the 400 meters and finished in third (49.34) and fifth (49.67) places, respectively, while King finished 10th in the 200 meters at 22.04 and won his heat in the 100 meters with a time of 11.17, which was good for 14th place overall.

In the distance races, freshman Abraxaz Sanchez (Schurr HS) finished third in the 1500 meters when he completed the race in 4:01.30, with Ryan Lopez (Montebello HS) posting a 10th place time of 11:16.32 in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Cerritos had three consecutive finishers in the 800 meters, with Jesus Mata (Western HS) taking 12th place in 1:59.79, Green in 13th place with a time of 1:59.85 and James Penn (Mayfair HS) posting a 14th place time of 2:00.11.

Freshman thrower Jorge Gonzalez (Ventura HS) had a good day, as he finished third in the discus with a distance of 40.71 meters, while his javelin throw of 47.77 meters put him in third place. Sophomore Zach Munoz (La Mirada HS/Cal State Fullerton), who finished third in the Southern California Decathlon Championships two days earlier, placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 45.73 meters.

Freshman high jumper Christopher Lawry (Ventura HS) tied for second place with a clearance of 2.00 meters, while pole vaulters Nicholas Mendoza (Norwalk HS) and Lawry tied for ninth place when they cleared 4.35 meters. In the long jump, sophomore David Williams (Long Beach Poly HS) tied for fifth place at 6.22 meters, with freshman thrower Austin Freeman turning in a shot put of 12.00 meters, good for ninth place.
