M. Water Polo: Cerritos picks up conference-opening win

Opening South Coast Conference play two weeks into the season, the Cerritos College men's water polo team had an easy time with host Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on Wednesday, as they posted a 21-4 victory. The win improved the Falcons to 10-3 overall and 1-0 in SCC play. The team will now get a strong test when they travel to cross-town rival Long Beach City College next Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. in a conference match.

The lopsided win allowed several players to get extra playing time, with freshman Kevin Cordova (Montebello HS) making the most of his opportunity, as he led the team with five goals, while freshman Joshua Owens (Kennedy HS) added four goals in the victory. Freshman Miguel Garcia (Montebello HS) added three goals and tied for the team lead with four assists along with sophomoreChristian Flores (Montebello HS). Sophomore goalie Michael Skinas (La Serna HS) turned away 12 shots and made three steals for the Falcons, while sophomore Rafael Romero (Montebello HS) checked in with a pair of goals, assists and steals. Freshman Jacob Erdtsiek (Western HS) finished with a pair of assists and steals.
