M. Water Polo: Early leads results in 20-8 win over Mt. SAC

On the strength of their 8-0 first half lead, the Cerritos College men's water polo team cruised to a 20-8 win over Mt. San Antonio College in the semi-finals of the South Coast Conference Tournament on Friday at the Falcon Aquatic Center. The win by the Falcons (24-9, 5-1) sends them to the championship game, where they will face top-seeded Long Beach City College at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, In their two previous meetings, the Vikings posted overtime wins.

By the time it was 8-0 in the second quarter, seven different players had scored for Cerritos, while sophomore goalkeeper Michael Skinas (La Serna HS) was turning away every Mounties shot. It was an 11-5 lead at intermission and the Falcons were able to empty their bench by the end of the game.

Sophomore Rafael Romero (Montebello HS) led the balanced scoring attack with four goals, with freshman Christian Cordova (Montebello HS) accounting for three goals in the win. Six different players scored twice, with sophomore Christian Flores (Montebello HS) and freshman Miguel Garcia (Montebello HS) each contributing two goals and three assists. Off the bench, Davey Brown (Whittier HS), TJ Tigerina (Bell Gardens HS) and Alexander Irvine (Schurr HS) each posted a pair of goals. Skinas finished the game with 13 saves.
