Although they lost their tournament game against West Valley College, 13-11, Cerritos College freshman men's water polo player Miguel Garcia (Montebello HS) broke the school record for most goals in a season on Saturday. Entering the game, Garcia was tied with teammate Christian Flores (Montebello HS) with 102 goals on the year, and needed one to tie Daniel Garcia, who scored 103 in 2001, and two to break the record. Miguel Garcia went on to score six goals in the defeat and will now continue to build on his 108 goals, as the Falcons (22-9) conclude South Coast Conference play at 4:15 p.m. when they host Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday.

"Miguel is just a natural goal scorer," said head coach Joe Abing. "He's not the prototypical water polo player, in terms of his body structure, but he has such a hard and accurate shot, that opposing goalies aren't able to catch up to his shot. He is such a good player."

After Cerritos won their first two games of the tournament on Friday, they were slated to face top-ranked Golden West on Saturday morning and played them to a close 15-11 score, with Garcia scoring five times and Flores - who scored his 102 goals in 2006 - adding a pair of goals and assists. Sophomore Rafael Romero (Montebello HS) finished with two goals and a team-high four assists, while sophomore goalie Michael Skinas (La Serna HS) posted 12 saves and two steals.

The Falcons finished up the tournament against #3-ranked West Valley, where Garcia broke the school record when he scored two of his game-high six goals in the loss. Sophomore Chad Castro (Whittier HS) added three goals, while Flores turned in three assists and two steals. Romero also had three assists, while Garcia contributed three steals to his record-breaking performance.
