M. Water Polo: Cerritos continues strong start with two more wins

The Cerritos College men's water polo team improved to 7-1 on the season after posting a pair of wins at the Golden West Mini Tournament on Friday. The opened the day with a convincing 22-10 win over Citrus College and followed that with a 17-11 decision over Palomar College. The Falcons will now travel to Los Angeles Valley College for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference match on Wednesday.

Cerritos vs. Citrus: The Falcons jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They received six goals each from sophomore Angel Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) and freshman Ever Resendiz (Colegio de Bachilleres 6, Mexico), while sophomore Israel Rodriguez (Whittier HS) contributed four goals in the win. In addition to his six tallies, Rojas also paced the team with six assists and four steals, while creating three ejections due to his play. Aside from that trio, four other players got on the scoreboard, while the goalkeeping duo of freshmen Matthew Contreras (Montebello HS) and Jason Curiel (El Rancho HS) combined to make 10 saves. Sophomore Jesus Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) also posted four assists.

Cerritos vs. Palomar: It was the duo of Resendiz and Angel Rojas that carried the Falcons in their hard-fought win over the Comets. The two of them each scored six times, with Rojas assisting on five goals, with freshman Kameron Simmons (Evanston Township, IL HS) turing in some great defense with five steals. In goal, Contreras made 12 saves, while the pairing of Jesus Rojas and Salvador Orozco both added a pair of goals.
