On the strength of their 16-14 win over Mt. San Antonio College, the Cerritos College men's water polo team has advanced to the South Coast Conference Tournament championship game. The Falcons (24-4), who have reached the championship game in two of the last three seasons, will play at 2:00 p.m. at Pasadena City College in the finals. Their opponent will be rival Long Beach City College, who owns an 11-9 win over Cerritos in their only other meeting this season.

In their second hard-fought game against the Mounties, the Falcons didn't take their first lead in the game until late in the second quarter when freshman Ever Resendiz (Colegio de Bachilleres 6, Mexico) scored on the man-advantage with 1:28 remaining. Resendiz, sophomore Jesus Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) and freshman Salvador Orozco (Montebello HS) accounted for the first three goals in the third period.

However, Mt. San Antonio was able to work their way back into the game by scoring four of the next five goals to put the score at 14-14 with 1:20 left in the game. Resendiz, who shared the team lead with five goals on the day, put Cerritos in front for good on a goal with :25 seconds left. After turning the Mounties away on their final possession, sophomore Jesus Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) scored with :02 seconds left to finish off the scoring.

Both Resendiz and Angel Rojas (five assists) each scored five times in the win, while Jesus Rojas contributed three goals. Sophomore Jeffrey Park posted three assists, while freshman goalie Matthew Contreras (Montebello HS) recorded 12 saves.
