Hosting the one-day Cerritos Mini Tournament on Friday, the Cerritos College men's water polo team won both of their games. The Falcons (13-1) opened with a come-from-behind 11-10 win over Orange Coast College and then defeated San Diego Mesa College, 16-6. The team will now host El Camino College in a 3:00 p.m. South Coast Conference match on Monday.

Cerritos vs. Orange Coast: After taking an early 2-0 lead in the first period, the Falcons found themselves trailing 10-8 early in the fourth period against the Pirates (9-2). But the Cerritos defense did not allow another goal the remainder of the game and scored the final three to pull out the victory. Sophomore Jesus Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) drew the team to within 10-9 with 6:02 left, with sophomore Jeffrey Park (Cerritos HS) tying the game on a goal with 5:10 remaining on the clock. Coming off a timeout, Cerritos scored the eventual game-winning goal when sophomore Israel Rodriguez (Whittier HS) got the ball past OCC goalie Alex Furlong. The Pirates had a couple of chances to tie the game, but could not get a shot past freshman goalie Jason Curiel (El Rancho HS). Rodriguez and freshman Salvador Orozco (Montebello HS) each scored three times, while sophomore Angel Rojas (Colegio Fray Luis Amigo, Venezuela) added a pair.

Cerritos vs. San Diego Mesa: It was a quick 5-0 first period lead for the Falcons to start against the Olympians and they maintained their lead the whole game. Nine different players scored for Cerritos, led by Angel Rojas and his four tallies, with the quartet of Jesus Rojas, along with freshmen Kameron Simmons (Evanston Township, IL HS), Ever Resendiz (Colegio de Bachilleres 6, Mexico) and Mark Arroyo (Schurr HS) all posting a pair of goals. It was a 9-3 lead at intermission and the six-goal lead held up throughout the second half. Curiel and freshman Matthew Contreras (Montebello HS) combined for five saves, with Contreras also assisting on a goal.
