It was an eventful month of December for Cerritos College sophomore wrestler Robert Chism (Downey HS). Not only did the 285-pound grappler win the Southern California Championship, he helped the Falcons win the CCCAA State Championship and captured the individual title. Chism was ranked #1 in the state at 285 pounds all season and he finished the year with a 26-0 record, with 19 victories by pin. In the state championships, he posted a pin in his first match, won 5-1 in the semifinals and then pinned freshman teammate Jesse Gomez (Buena Park HS) in the championships. He also pinned two of his three opponents in the SoCal Regional Championships.

Also a two-year member of the Falcon football team, Chism was a 1st Team All-Conference selection at center his sophomore season in 2013. He has signed a letter of intent with Lindenwood (MO) University to compete in wrestler. He will be given the opportunity to try out for the football team, if he wishes to do so.

With his state title at 285 pounds, Chism became the seventh Cerritos wrestler to win the state championship at that weight classification. The award is also the 16th time a Falcon athlete has been named the state's Athlete of the Month, which is the most in the state by a school. There have been nine women to receive the award and Chism is the seventh male recipient.
