Led by two individual champions and a pair of second pace finishers, the Cerritos College wrestling team won the Fresno City Open on Saturday. The Falcons, ranked #1 in the state, compiled 131 team points, which held off second place Sacramento City College, who had 124.5 team points. This Wednesday, the team will close out Southwest Conference action with a 7:00 p.m. contest against host Santa Ana College. Cerritos has already clinched at least a share of the conference title.

Both individual champions entered the tournament undefeated and ranked #1 in the state at their respective weight classes. Sophomore 133-pound Dustin Kirk (Elsinore HS) dispatched three opponents to win the title, while sophomore 285-pound Robert Chism (Downey HS) pinned his first two opponents before another win pitted him against freshman teammate Jesse Gomez (Buena Park HS) in the finals. Gomez forfeited the championship to Chism, so they didn't square off against each other. Also advancing to the finals was freshman 141-pound Jonathan Tanap (Carson HS), who was pinned in 1:20 by Colt Schilling of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

At 174 pounds, sophomore Dylan Clarke (Burnt Hills, NY HS) opened with a pin after a first round bye. He followed that with a 9-1 victory over Kalan Hastey of Sacramento City College to reach the finals. Clarke was defeated by tournament MVP Mo Nasser of Fresno City College, 13-6. Entering the tournament, sophomore Keanu Tom (Los Alamitos HS) was undefeated and ranked #1 in the state at 157 pounds. Seeded #1, Tom posted a pair of wins before Adrian Gomez of Fresno City snapped his winning streak with a 3-1 triumph. However, Tom did rebound with an 8-7 win and then handed Xavier Johnson of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo a 3-2 loss for third place.

Sophomore Max Kumashiro (Los Alamitos HS) was defeated in his second round match, 6-5 by Immanuel Barber of Cal State Bakersfield to drop into the consolation round at 184 pounds. He picked up three straight wins to advance to the third place match, but was defeated, 7-4 by Barber and finished in fourth place. As for 197-pound sophomore Jeremiah Gerl (Calvary Chapel HS), the top-seed posted a 16-2 win in his first match, but was then handled by eventual champion Matt Williams of Cal State Bakersfield. In the consolation round, Gerl registered a 16-0 win to reach the third place match, but was pinned in 3:03 by Dom Freesha of Fresno City.
