For the 14th game in a row, the Cerritos College women's soccer team posted a win. The latest was a 2-0 South Coast Conference South Division victory over Long Beach City College, which closed out the regular season. In addition to winning 14 games in a row, it was also the sixth consecutive shutout for the Falcons (18-1-1, 8-0-0), who have now posted 15 shutouts on the season. The five-time defending CCCAA State Champions will more than likely open the Southern California Regional Playoffs as the #4-seeded team, with the first round set for Saturday, November 18 and will host the #13-seeded team.
In their second consecutive 2-0 win over the Vikings in three days, the Falcons opened the scoring in the 30th minute. Freshman Mia Ramirez (Torrance HS) brought the ball into scoring position on the right side of the field and served a perfect crossing pass to freshman Elizabeth Mendez (Long Beach Millikan HS), who headed the ball in for her fourth goal of the season.
It was a tightly contested game, with both teams fighting to maintain possession of the ball for an extended period of time. Cerritos was limited to just four shots on goal, while freshman goalkeeper Deisy Rodriguez (Katella HS) was required to make just one save on the day.
The Falcons were able to add a late insurance goal when freshman Alixandra Evans (Batavia, IL HS) won the ball at midfield and fed a pass through the LBCC defense to freshman Stephanie Nava (Shadow Ridge, NV HS). Maintaining her stride, Nava was able to place the ball into the net on her first touch for her ninth goal of the season.
