In their last two games, the Cerritos College women's soccer team has outscored their opponents, 15-0. On Friday, the Falcons (12-4-2, 5-1-0) defeated host Compton College, 9-0. In their first meeting the teams played to a 1-1 draw. With just two regular season games remaining on their schedule, Cerritos will travel to East Los Angeles College on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. game before finishing with a 3:00 p.m. home match against Los Angeles Harbor College next Friday.
Seven different players scored goals for the Falcons, with sophomore Nia Thompson (Kennedy HS/Alabama A&M University) leading the way with three goals on the day. She opened the scoring for Cerritos in the eighth minute when a deflection landed in front of her and she converted for the goal. With Cerritos leading 3-0 in the first half, Thompson accounted for the next two goals before the end of the half and a 5-0 advantage. She delivered on a shot from 25 yards out after receiving a pass from freshman Aubree Stevens (Pacifica HS) in the 33rd minute and the two connected once again four minutes later on a corner kick that Thompson finished with a header. She increased her team lead in goals to 12, while Stevens has now assisted on five goals.
Both Samantha Martinez (San Pedro HS) and Valeria Corrilo (Dominguez HS) had a goal and two assists for the Falcons, with the two working together on the team's second goal. On another set piece, Martinez was able to flick the ball upward, where Corrilo headed the ball backward and into the goal. Martinez scored her goal in the 72nd minute, as she controlled a pass from freshman Lucia Yanez (El Rancho HS), turned and fired a shot into the back of the net from 25 yards out.
Also picking up goals on the day were freshman Alessandra Ramirez (Warren HS), who scored her sixth of the season, while sophomore Maria Campos (Paramount HS) scored her first of the season. Freshman Leah Moses-Batson (Timberview, TX HS) also cashed in on her first goal of the season, as she accounted for the last goal of the day.
