For the second game in a row, the Cerritos College women's soccer team took an early 1-0 lead in a South Coast Conference game. The Falcons, who posted their first victory of the season on Tuesday against East Los Angeles College, kept visiting El Camino College off the board for the first 45 minutes. However, Cerritos could not maintain that lead, as the Warriors tied the game in the 66th minute and then added two more goals in the final 10 minutes for a 3-1 final score. The Falcons (1-8-0, 1-1-0) will host Los Angeles Harbor College at 4:00 p.m. next Tuesday.
In the 13th minute, sophomore Jaque Adame (North Torrance HS) lined up for a direct kick from 35 yards out. Using her strong and accurate leg, she fired a shot into the far upper corner and over the outstretched hands of El Camino goalkeeper McKenna Morey for a 1-0 Cerritos lead.
The team's 158-minute shutout streak came to an end when El Camino's Allison Sibley scored her first of what would be a natural hat trick. In the 66th minute, she was able to grab a loose ball on an errant pass in Cerritos territory and fired a shot to the inside post past sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Ruiz (Applied Technology Center HS).
It was the play of Ruiz that kept Cerritos in the game, as she made several outstanding saves. She finished with 11 stops on the day.
In the final 10 minutes, Sibley was able to send two more high shots that went over Ruiz, with the third catching the inside of the far post and rolling into the net.
