After a rough non-conference schedule, the Cerritos College women's soccer team opened South Coast Conference play on Tuesday with a 3-0 win at East Los Angeles College. The win was the first of the season for the Falcons (1-7-0, 1-0-0) and the first for new head coach Yvette Vascones. The team will now host El Camino College at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Entering the game, Cerritos had only found the back of the net twice all season, but opened the scoring of the game in the 25th minute when sophomore Giselle Ramirez (Smidt Tech HS) scored the first of her two goals on the year. She received a pass through the Huskies defense from Marlene Rosas (Warren HS) and buried her first goal of the year.

As the first half was set to close, the Falcons struck again in the 41st minute, as sophomore Kassandra Rocha (La Serna HS) fired a shot past East Los Angeles goalkeeper Karen Chen on a nice pass from freshman Madelynn Jones (Liberty HS).

Sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Ruiz (Applied Technology Center HS) turned away all three Huskies shots to register the shutout victory. She was aided by a second Ramirez goal in the second half when sophomore Jaque Adame (North Torrance HS) lofted a perfect corner kick ball to Ramirez, who found the back of the net in the 61st minute.

Cerritos outshot East LA, 14-8 on the day.
