Looking to find a silver lining in their 7-1 non-conference loss to visiting College of the Desert on Friday, the Cerritos College women's soccer team can look to the fact that they never stopped competing and even scored the final goal of the game. The Falcons (0-6-0) will travel to Mt. San Jacinto College next Thursday for a 4:00 p.m. match before they open South Coast Conference play the following week. Trailing, 7-0 in the second half, the Falcons were able to advance deep into Roadrunners, where sophomore Giselle Ramirez (Smidt Tech HS) sent a picture-perfect pass to sophomore Abigail Juarez (Brea Olinda HS), who slipped a shot under goalkeeper Zamara Cervantes. It also marked the team's second goal of the season.
Although she surrendered seven goals, sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Ruiz (Applied Technology Center HS) made six saves and gave up her body on several occasions to keep College of the Desert from adding to their total. She was removed with 20 minutes remaining, with freshman Damaris Serpas (Robert F. Kennedy Community HS) coming in for her first action of the season and made a pair of saves.
