Led by a pair of goals from freshman Madelynn Jones (Liberty HS), the Cerritos College women's soccer team won their second game in a row, as they shut out host Los Angeles City College, 3-0 on Friday night. The Falcons (3-8-0, 3-1-0) are currently tied for second place in the South Coast Conference South Division and will travel to Long Beach City College for a 4:00 p.m. match on Tuesday. The Vikings (8-0-4, 3-0-1) are currently in first place and ranked #5 in the state.
Jones got Cerritos on the board in the third minute of the game, as she paired with sophomore Giselle Ramirez (Smidt Tech HS) for the first of their two tallies. The Falcons rode that lead into halftime, and added to their goal total in the 54th minute when sophomore Aida Pineda (Warren HS) fed sophomore Kassandra Rocha (La Serna HS) for the team's second goal.
Peppering the Cubs keeper with 20 shots on the night, Cerritos received the second goal of the game from Jones, who is now tied with Ramirez for the team lead with three each. The final goal of the game came in the 62nd minute, with Ramirez posting her third helper of the year.
Sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Ruiz (Applied Technology Center HS) posted her second shutout of the season and made two saves.
