With time running out in their South Coast Conference South Division match against visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Tuesday, the Cerritos College women's soccer team was feeling fortunate to come away with a 1-1 tie. However, in the final seconds, the combination of a loose ball and the Seahawks goalkeeper well out of the net, it provided an opportunity for sophomore Giselle Ramirez (Smidt Tech HS) to score into an open net and give the Falcons a 2-1 victory. The win was the second in the last three games for Cerritos (2-8-0, 2-1-0), who will travel to Los Angeles City College for a 7:00 p.m. conference match on Friday.

Holding on to a slim 1-0 lead since the 34th minute of the game, LA Harbor (2-8-2, 0-3-0) seemed to be on their way to a win, as they controlled possession of the ball the majority of the game and had peppered the Falcons goal with eight shots.

However, a pair of failed clearing attempts by the Seahawks provided the Falcons a chance to tie the game and then win. In the 76th minute, sophomore Jaque Adame (North Torrance HS) sent a ball into LA Harbor territory, where sophomore Aida Pineda (Warren HS) was able to collect the ball and loft a shot over goalkeeper Melanie Ramos to tie the game.

LA Harbor was able to keep the ball in Falcon territory most of the game, which required sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Ruiz (Applied Technology Center HS) to make seven first half saves. Although she wasn't required to make any saves in the second half, she defense was on their toes the whole game and did a fine job of withstanding every scoring chance.

Ramos, who had four saves of her own, was unable to clear the ball in extra time, which created the opportunity for Ramirez to collect the ball and loft a shot from about 50 yards away, which went over the keeper's head and rolled into the empty net.
