Competing in the Southern California Diving Championships at Long Beach City College on Friday, Cerritos College sophomore diver Alexis Cummings (Mayfair HS) finished in the Top 8 in the 1-meter event on the day. She finished with 137.45 total points, which edged out Los Angeles Valley College's Kyra Freemon, who finished with 137.30 points. As a result, Cummings has qualified for the 3C2A State Championships, which will take place at Orange Coast College from May 2-4. She is the first Falcon diver to qualify for the state championships since Yuridia Vela in 2013.
Cummings (pictured, left) performed six dives on the day, with her back dive straight scoring her the most points and had the second highest degree of difficulty of her attempts. She also executed a forward diver with a 1/2 twist straight, as well as a forward dive straight. She was still able to finish in the top eight although she failed to score in a reverse dive tuck. Cummings will have two weeks to work on her set before the state championships.
