W. Swimming: Cerritos ends swim season at conference championships

It was the final swimming meet of the season for the Cerritos College women's swimming team, as they competed in the South Coast Conference Championships over the weekend. Over the course of the three-day meet, the Falcons finished with 204 team points, which put them in fifth place overall. Although none of their swimmers qualified for the 3C2A State Championships, the team will be represented by Alexis Cummings (Mayfair HS), who qualified in the 1-meter diving event after placing eighth in Southern California and third in the conference championships.

The Falcons relay teams garnered the majority of their team points and were led by a pair of fifth place finishes. The foursome of Hannah Gonzalez (Artesia HS), Cummings, Autumn Aragon (Whittier HS) and Abigail Perez (Bell HS) posted a time of 2:23.66 in the 200-yard medley for their fifth place result, while in the 800-yard freestyle relay, the time of 10:21.68 by Cummings, Gonzalez, Kylee McKenna (Home Schooled) and Perez earned them their fifth place finish.

It was sixth place finishes for the other three Cerritos relay teams, with Cummings, Perez, McKenna and Angel Aldaz turning in a time of 2:03.64 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. As for Gonzalez, Cummings, Aragon and Perez, they posted a sixth place time of 5:41.60 in the 400-yard medley relay, with the championships ending on the quartet of Perez, Aldaz, Aragon and Cummings turning in a time of 4:47.24 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

In individual races, Aragon had the best Falcon finish, as her time of 3:18.26 earned her an eighth place finish in the 200-yard butterfly and cut eight seconds off her prelim time. Cummings finished 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 3:07.30, while her clocking of 1:00.66 put her in 11th place in the 100-yard freestyle. McKenna shaved eight seconds off her prelim time and finished in 10th place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:36.31, with Gonzalez placing 11th in the 200-yard backstroke, as she was clocked in 2:55.26, which was nine seconds faster than her time in the prelims.
