The Cerritos College women's track and field team got a good look at what four-year competition looks like on Saturday at the UC Irvine Five-Way Meet. The Falcons earned great experience, although they lost to Cal State Long Beach (123-65), Purdue University (88-82) and the host Anteaters (101-80). The team will get another look at university level competition when they travel this weekend to the University of Arizona for the Willie Williams Classic.

The strength of the Falcons are their throws and the team had multiple entries in each of the events. Freshman Destiny Mack-Talalemotu (Long Beach Millikan HS) came in fifth place in the hammer throw with a distance of 155' 4", while sophomore teammate Dorienne Ordaz (Bravo HS) was right behind at 151' 6, good for sixth place. With her strength being in the shot put, Mack-Talalemotu was a second place finisher, as she almost matched her school record distance. She turned in a throw of 47' 3" on her second toss and was four feet behind the first place distance, while her discus throw of 126' 11" put her in seventh place overall.

Sophomore Alexus Dalton (Long Beach Poly HS) won the high jump at 5' 5" and was fourth in the long jump at 17' 10 1/4". In the triple jump, freshman Marielle Owens (Carson HS) recorded the fifth best distance in school history at 37' 11 1/2", which earned her a second place finish. She was right behind Nikki Nunn, a senior at Purdue, who won the event with a distance of 38' 3/4".

In the running events, Dalton placed fourth in the 100-meter HH at 14.27, with freshman Lauryn Ballard (Narbonne HS) posting a time of 12.63 to come in third place in the 100 meters. The 400-meter relay team of Danasia Richard (Carson HS), Arbony Meighan (Carson HS), Ballard and Ariana Wright (Westminster HS) turned in a third place time of 48.50.
