Winning their second straight South Coast Conference Championship, the Cerritos College women's track and field team also swept the conference awards. The Falcons, who will be competing in the Southern California Prelims at Riverside City College, saw head coach Michael Allen be named the Coach of the Year for the third season in a row. Throws coach, Lloyd Higgins, who helped Cerritos earn 176 of their 285 team points, was honored as the Assistant Coach of the Year for the third time in as many years.

Sharing the two individual awards were sophomore Alexus Dalton (Long Beach Poly HS) and freshman Destiny Mack-Talalemotu (Long Beach Millikan HS), who were each named the Co-Field Athlete of the Year, as well as the Co-Field Athlete of the Meet at the conference championships.

Mack-Talalemotu posted the second best discus throw in school history, as she recorded a distance of 47.18 meters to easily win the event. Her shot put of 13.73 meters out-distanced third place Dalton (10.70 meters), while she finished off her three-win day with a javelin throw that went 40.27 meters. Dalton, who won a pair of events on the day, came in second place at 35.60 meters). Dalton captured the conference title in the high jump with a height of 1.63 meters, while her long jump of 5.82 meters defeated the field.

As a freshman, Dalton set three school records, including the 100-meter HH (14.10), high jump (1.76 meters) and heptathlon (5129 points). She recorded 33 team points for the Falcons at the State Championships, as the team won the title, and she won the state championship in the heptathlon and high jump. Dalton also finished second in the long jump and fourth in the 100-meter HH.

So far this season, Mack-Talalemotu has set the school record in the shot put (14.83 meters) and has the second best discus (47.18 meters). She currently has posted the best distance in Southern California this year and has the third best hammer and javelin distance this year.

This is the sixth time Allen has been named the conference's Women's Coach of the Year, while he has been named the state's Coach of the Year on four occasions.
