On Wednesday night, the Cerritos volleyball team opened up big leads against visiting Los Angeles Trade-Tech College and went on to post a 25-11, 25-10, 25-11 victory. The win by the Falcons (12-7, 5-1) keeps the team in a tie for second place in the South Coast Conference, as they prepare to host first place El Camino College at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Cerritos broke open a 5-3 score in the first set by scoring 19 of the next 24 points - including the last nine - to put the game out of reach. Sophomore Jasmine Peralta (Lakewood HS) recorded three service aces during that run, while the Lady Techsters had a negative attack percentage. The Falcons continued that momentum in the second game, with sophomore Tisha Lenon (Gahr HS) accounting for a pair of aces to jump out to a 5-0 lead. They continued to score points in bunches, including a seven-point run, to give them a 22-6 advantage.

In the third game, LATT took advantage of a couple of Cerritos attack errors to take a brief 4-1 lead. Cerritos tied the game at 6-6 on a Peralta kill and then took a 12-7 lead with six consecutive points, as sophomore Natalie Caravantes (Baldwin Park HS) posted two service aces. On the night, the Falcons had 19 aces.

Sophomore Nicole Spigner (La Mirada HS) led the way with eight kills and 14 digs, with freshmen Kayley Stephens (Cypress HS) and Monica Vega (South Gate HS) each adding seven kills. Caravantes dished out 27 assists to go with her three aces and two kills, while Peralta finished with six aces and seven digs. Lenon concluded the match with a season-high four aces and had a pair of kills.
