The Cerritos College women's water polo team had to wait two weeks, but they captured their first two wins on the second day of the Chaffey Tournament over the weekend. The Falcons (2-7) opened the tournament with losses against Ventura College (13-10) and Riverside City College (17-2) before they posted matching 8-7 wins against Fresno City College and Cypress College. The team will now host Mt. San Antonio College at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday in a South Coast Conference match.

Cerritos vs. Ventura: Knotted with the Pirates, 6-6 at halftime, the Falcons surrendered four third period goals and only scored one. They played an even fourth period, but Cerritos was unable to secure their first win of the season. It was a balanced effort, with six different players scoring while sophomore Carla Harvey (Potomac Falls, VA HS) led the way with four goals and five assists. Sophomore Celeste Ibarra (Gahr HS) posted a pair of goals and steals, with freshman Samantha Cruz (Gahr HS) leading the defensive effort with five steals. Freshman goalie Kristin Park (Cerritos HS) turned away six shots.

Cerritos vs. Riverside: Facing one of the top teams in the state, the Falcons struggled to score and fell behind early. Harvey scored the team's two goals, with the trio of Cruz, Amanda Rabb (Gahr HS) and Breanna Zuniga (California HS) each recording a pair of steals. Park registered six saves in goal.

Cerritos vs. Fresno City: The Falcons earned their first win of the season, as they held off a late charging Rams team. Cerritos took a 5-2 lead into halftime and were up 7-4 heading into the final eight minutes of the game. Harvey was the offensive hero in the win, scoring six of the team's goals, with sophomore Ashley Padilla (California HS) accounting for the other two. Cerritos committed 13 turnovers, but relied on their defense and Park, who made seven saves and added a steal.

Cerritos vs. Cypress: Coming off their first win, the Falcons found themselves trailing Cypress, 4-2 at halftime. But a second half adjustment resulted in Cerritos outscoring the Chargers, 5-0 in the third period to take a 7-4 lead. Just like in their game against Fresno City, the Falcons had to hold off their opponent to come away with the win. Harvey added five goals, five steals and three assists to her weekend totals, with Park making seven saves and coming up with a pair of steals. Cruz had a hand in three goals, with Zuniga dishing out a pair of helpers.
