W. Water Polo: Early deficit erased in 17-7 win

After the first 3:11 of their South Coast Conference match, the Cerritos College women's water polo team trailed visiting East Los Angeles College, 4-1. The Falcons (7-3, 5-0) were able to recover and outscored the Huskies (2-7, 1-3), 16-3 the rest of the way to record a 17-7 win. The team will get over a week off until an important conference match at Mt. San Antonio College at 3:00 p.m. a week from Wednesday.

The match was tied, 5-5 after the first period, but Cerritos held East Los Angeles scoreless over the next two periods to take the lead and never look back. Sophomore Isabella Sierra (California HS) scored the team's lone four goals in the second period and was one of three players to add to the team's lead in the third period. She finished with a career-high 10 goals on 12 shots, with a trio of players scoring twice for the team.

In addition to the offensive output by the Falcons, sophomore goalkeeper Ivanna Tostado (Troy HS) turned her game around and finished with 12 saves to go along with three steals. Freshman Lizbeth Gomez (Schurr HS), who posted a pair of goals, assisted on five others which included three straight while Cerritos went on a 10-0 run. Freshman Hailey Rabb (Gahr HS) and Joanna Joson (Gahr HS) also scored twice, while sophomore Elisa Prohroff (Schurr HS) recorded four assists in the win. Sierra and Gomez each had three steals.
