Competing against four-year competition, Cerritos College sophomore Zach Munoz (La Mirada HS/Cal State Fullerton) finished in seventh place in the decathlon at the UNLV Invitational. Over the course of the two-day event, Munoz compiled 6003 points for his seventh place finish out of 11 competitors. The Falcons will now spend Saturday competing in the third day of the invitational.

Munoz sat in eighth place after the first five events, which included three events that netted him close to 700 points each. He opened the 10-event decathlon with a time of 11.77 in the 100 meters for 697 points and had the fifth best high jump of the event at 1.78 meters, good for 610 points. The day was capped off with a 400 meter time of 52.78, which earned him 691 points.

On the second day, Munoz opened with a solid 110-meter HH time of 15.91, which produced 743 points and catapulted him into seventh place over Ethan Hitchcock of Northern Colorado University. His strongest event, the pole vault, resulted in only 482 points when he cleared 3.50 meters. His biggest point output in the final five events came from the high hurdles, but he finished with a solid 537 points with a time of 5:04.02 in the 1500 meters.
