M. Track & Field: First day of Aztec Invitational goes well

On the first day of the Aztec Invitational at San Diego State University, the Cerritos College men's track and field team posted nine top five finishes.

Posting the team's lone first place finish of the day, the 1600-meter relay team posted a time of 3:23.63 and consisted of sophomore Jhamani Long (Cerritos HS), sophomore Jahmal King (Bellflower HS), freshman Clay Green (Los Alamitos HS) and sophomore Jaydon Logan (Artesia HS). Competing in the 400-meter IH, Logan also recorded a second place time of 53.78.

As for the 400-meter relay team, the quartet of freshman Tyler Coffman (Los Alamitos HS), Logan, freshman Saadiq Jennings (Martin Luther King HS) and freshman Jacob Gasser (Los Alamitos HS) ran the race in 42.69, good for second place. In the 400 meters, King earned a fourth place finish with his clocking of 49.54.

In the field events, sophomore Stacy Chukwumezie (Downey HS) came in second place in the long jump with a distance of 6.96 meters. A pair of third place finishes were also turned in, with sophomore Blair Robinson (Kennedy HS) turning in a distance of 13.65 meters in the triple jump, while freshman Christopher Lawry (Ventura HS) cleared 1.95 meters in the high jump. Lawry also came in fifth place in the pole vault with a height of 4.61 meters, with freshman Jorge Gonzalez (Ventura HS) checking in with a sixth place finish in the shot put with a throw of 14.78 meters.
