After guiding the Cerritos College women's track and field team to a second place finish at the 3C2A State Championships in May, head coach Chris Richardson has been named the 5CTCA Coach of the Year. The Falcons, who had three individual state champions, also finished in second place at the Southern California Championships after winning the South Coast Conference title.

Of the three state championships won by the Falcons, the 4x100-meter relay team of Jazzmine Davis, Kimora Rogers, Rionna Wallace and Aryianna Faircloth set a Southern California record with a time of 45.44. It was also the fastest time in the state. Davis won the state title in the 100-meter HH and the heptathlon and recorded the best mark in the state in both events.

As a team, the Falcons also had the top mark in three other events, while they finished with the top mark in two more events.

During his tenure as the women's track and field head coach, Richardson has guided the Falcons to five 3C2A State Championships, three second place finishes, as well as five Southern California titles and eight South Coast Conference championships. He has had 82 state champions and well over 100 All-Americans.
