Facing the #9-ranked East Los Angeles College in an early South Coast Conference game on Wednesday at Hope International University, Cerritos College sophomore Anthony Holliday (Norwalk HS) came in with the approach of a playoff game. After lighting up the scoreboard for 17 first half points, the Lamar University-bound Holliday added 14 second half points to lead the Falcons with 31, as they handed the Huskies a 66-55 setback. The win by Cerritos improved them to 3-0 in the SCC and 9-7 overall, while dropping East LA to 13-4 and 2-1. The team will look for their fourth straight win on Friday when they travel to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 6:00 p.m. contest.

Holliday netted his 31 points on just 13 shots, as he went 5-for-5 from three-point range, including back-to-back treys with a hand in his face to help the Falcons open an early lead. Cerritos never trailed in the game, but once they opened up a 32-21 advantage early in the second half, watched the Huskies score six straight points, with four of them on consecutive turnovers before crossing midcourt. After Dushon Carter scored for ELAC to get within 32-30, sophomore Marquise Washington (Westchester HS/Cypress College) scored on a jump hook, followed by a driving basket from freshman Kevin Conrad (Buena Park HS).

It was a 44-33 advantage with 14:40 remaining before East LA made another run at the Falcons, as they got to within 45-42 over the next two minutes. But Holliday responded with a three-pointer and added another one with 5:44 to push the lead back to double-digits.

Washington, who converted 5-of-8 baskets in the game, added 13 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots, while Conrad finished with 10 points and four rebounds. Sophomore David Hall (Lynwood HS/Yavapai, AZ CC) posted seven points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Falcons, while Carter paced the Huskies with 12 points and six rebounds.
