The Cerritos College men's basketball team, champions of the South Coast Conference South Division, were seeded #19 out of the 20 teams that advance to the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Falcons (16-10) will be travelling to #14-seeded Antelope Valley College (19-8) on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. game. The winner will advance to the second round and face #3-seeded Mt. San Antonio College at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Despite winning their divisional championship, Cerritos was seeded as low as they were based on the criteria for selecting teams to the post-season. The Falcons recorded three "quality wins", which are wins over teams with 18 or more victories, while two losses to teams with under eight wins hurt their seeding position.
It will mark the second time this season Cerritos will be facing the Marauders, who tied for second place in the Foothill Conference. On December 16 at the College of the Sequoias Tournament, Antelope Valley posted a 62-59 win, which came down to the final minute. The Falcons were victimized by their poor free throw shooting (11-for-23) and played the game without sophomore guard Chris Wyms (King-Drew HS/West Los Angeles CC).
Cerritos received 15 points and nine rebounds from sophomore Marquise Washington (Westchester HS/Cypress HS), while sophomore David Hall (Lynwood HS/Yavapai, AZ CC) came off the bench to contribute 12 points and 11 rebounds. For Antelope Valley, they received 18 points from Mike Scott, with Vadal Faniel adding 13 points and seven boards off the bench.
Ticket for the game are $8 for General Admission, $5 for students, faculty, senior citizens and children under 12. No passes, except those approved by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) will be accepted.
