On Friday, the Cerritos College men's swimming team compiled 195 team points to come in fourth place at the Golden West Invitational. The Falcons will now open South Coast Conference action on Friday at 10:00 a.m. when they host both Long Beach City College and Chaffey College.

On the day, the team posted a pair of fourth place finishes in relay races, along with a fifth and sixth place result. In the 200-yard medley relay, the quartet of Joshua Guzman (Warren HS), Jorge De Loera (St. Pius/St. Matthias Academy HS), Rodrigo Baca (Kennedy HS) and Jonathan Butz (Los Altos HS) posted a time of 1:48.99 for their fourth place result, with the foursome of Colson Morrow (Long Beach Millikan HS), Jesus Murguia (Downey HS), Guzman and De Loera were timed in 8:03.43 in the 800-yard freestyle for their fourth place. A fifth place time of 4:01.78 in the 400-yard medley relay race was turned in by Guzman, De Loera, Baca and Butz, with the 400-yard freestyle relay time of 3:37.22 by Baca, Morrow, De Loera and Butz earning them sixth place in the final event of the day.

In individual races, Baca had the best all-around day, as he finished in a close second place in the 50-yard freestyle. His time of 22.28 was only bested by Justin Gomez of Riverside City College, who recorded a time of 22.07. It was an even closer result in the 50-yard butterfly, as Baca saw his second place time of 24.45 come up short against the 24.35 turned in by Fernando Duenas of Riverside City. Murguia was a distant eighth place in 27.04. A third race resulted in a second place result for Baca, who swam the 100-yard buttfly in 53.81, while Murguia was in seventh place at 57.62. 

Guzman turned in a third place effort in the 50-yard backstroke, as he was clocked in 28.19, with Murguia in a tight fifth place at 28.74. A pair of fifth place finishes also earned the Falcons team points, with Morrow completing the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:14.91, while De Loera was in seventh place with his clocking of 2:16.15. As for De Loera, he also came in fifth place in the 100-yard IM at 1:02.68. Butz led Cerritos in the 50-yard breaststroke with a sixth place time of 30.35, while his time of 1:10.52 also put him in sixth place in the 100-yard breaststroke. Nicholas Herrera (Norwalk HS) also turned in a ninth place time of 1:12.94. The 100-yard freestyle saw Butz post a 10th place time of 53.05, with Guzman finishing in seventh place in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:02.14.
