Cerritos College sophomore distance swimmer Colson Morrow (Long Beach Millikan HS) finished last season on the brink of breaking the school record in the 1000-yard freestyle. On Friday in a South Coast Conference meet, Morrow shaved :15 seconds off his personal best time and set the new school record with a time of 10:15.42, which earned him third place in the race. He eclipsed the old record of 10:26.80, which was set in 2009 by Matt Mendoza.

His result, along with a pair of first place finishes by sophomore Rodrigo Baca (Kennedy HS) earned the Falcons a split on the day, as they defeated Rio Hondo College, 197-38, but suffered a loss to host Mt. San Antonio College, 191.5-69.5. The team will take a week off before hosting El Camino College in a 10:00 a.m. conference meet on March 20.

Baca earned a win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.27, which was almost a full second ahead of Brandon Knapp of Mt. San Antonio College (23.13). He then posted a time of 55.25 in the 100-yard backstroke, which was one full second ahead of Knapp's second place time of 56.25. Knapp did get the best of one Falcon, as he won by a slight margin over freshman Jonathan Butz (Los Altos HS) in the 100-yard freestyle. Knapp touched up in 50.52, with Butz completing the race in 51.09.

In the closest race of the day, Baca was edged by .01 of a second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.71), as Parker Egan of Mt. SAC won the event in 55.70. Freshman Jesus Murguia (Downey HS) turned in a third place time of 59.42.

Morrow recorded a trio of third place finishes on the day, which also included times of 5:09.54 in the 500-yard freestyle and 2:09.26 in the 200-yard IM. It was a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle for Butz (1:58.15), while Murguia earned third place in the 200-yard butterfly with a clocking of 2:09.63. The team's other individual third place finish came in the 100-yard breaststroke, with freshman Nicholas Herrera (Norwalk HS) swimming the race in 1:11.47.

The quartet of sophomore Joshua Guzman (Warren HS), freshman Mario Vanzillotta (Colegio Palaz, Brazil HS), Murguia and Baca posted a second place time of 1:49.80 in the 200-yard medley relay, with Morrow Butz, freshmen Jorge De Loera (St. Pius/St. Matthias Academy HS) and Jose Hurtado (Cerritos HS) swimming the 400-yard freestyle relay in a third place time of 3:37.80. Mt. SAC took second place with a time of 3:37.16.
