With a pair of four-year colleges on their schedule at the Cal Lutheran Tournament on Thursday, the Cerritos College men's water polo team knew they would have a tough day. The Falcons, who dropped to 3-5 overall after losses in both games, have now played four games against four-year schools this season, which have accounted for four of their five losses. They opened with a 17-11 loss to Condordia University (their second loss of the season) and then were defeated by the host Kingsmen, 14-9. The team will now travel south to take part in the San Diego Mesa Tournament over the weekend.

In their loss to Concordia University, they once again stared down at a familiar face. For the last two seasons, the Falcons relied on Michael Skinas to keep the opposing team's shots out of the net. But facing Skinas and the Eagles, Cerritos was able to stay close and trailed only 12-10 heading into the fourth quarter. But three goals by Concordia's Jacob Pril helped them pull away for the win.

Sophomore Miguel Garcia (Montebello HS) kept the team close early in the game with three first quarter goals, which helped the team fight back from a 5-1 deficit. A goal by freshman Eugene Lee (Hacienda Heights Wilson HS) with 6:29 left in the second quarter got the team to within 6-5, while sophomore Albert Kim (Cerritos HS) closed the gap to 9-8 with :20 seconds left in the first half. But the Eagles outscored the Falcons, 7-3 in the second half to pull out the win. Skinas posted 12 saves for Concordia, while freshman Michael Asendorf (Sunny Hills HS) responded with five stop of his own.

Garcia matched his first quarter output against Cal Lutheran in the second game with three goals, while the Falcons fought to stay close. But slowly the Kingsmen pulled away after a goal by Kim with 1:37 left in the third quarter got the game to 9-8. Kim and sophomore TJ Tigerina (Bell Gardens HS) each added a pair of goals in the loss.
