With more than half of the season behind them, the Cerritos College men's water polo team is aware that every result has important post-season implications. Over the weekend, the Falcons played four games at the Riverside City Tournament and split those games, with their two losses coming by one goal against teams they will be fighting against for a playoff position. Cerritos sandwiched losses to Ventura College (8-7 in OT) and Grossmont College (8-7) with a 15-6 victory over Palomar College and an 11-7 decision against Los Angeles Valley College. Cerritos (10-10) will now take a week off before they resume South Coast Conference play.

Cerritos vs. Ventura: Playing without leading scorer Miguel Garcia (Montebello HS) after he was injured during the game, and freshman Cody Anderson (Valencia HS) for the duration of the tournament, the depth took a bit of a hit. The Falcons turned to freshman Marlon Moreno (Virgen del Rosario, Venezulea HS) for extra scoring. Moreno led the team with three goals, but Cerritos struggled with handling the ball and posted 13 turnovers in the overtime loss. Garcia scored once and recorded four steals before getting hurt, while freshman goalkeeper Alfredo De La Mora (Bell Gardens HS) posted 13 saves and five steals in the loss.

Cerritos vs. Palomar: The team rebounded from their loss by using eight different goal scorers, with all three goalkeepers seeing action. Moreno (three goals) led the team while sophomores Albert Kim (Cerritos HS) and Randy Baldwin (Buena Park HS/Fullerton College) were joined by freshmen Joshua Owens (Kennedy HS), Peter Roldan (Downey HS) and Andrew Javier (Cerritos HS) with a pair of goals each. Cerritos also received three steals on defense from Javier, Kim and sophomore Derek Klotzer (Downey HS).

Cerritos vs. Los Angeles Valley: Just three days after defeating the Monarchs at home, the Falcons repeated the effort, with Moreno scoring four times in the win. Baldwin matched him in goals scored, with Kim finishing with three steals and a pair of assists. De Le Mora turned away nine shots in the win.

Cerritos vs. Grossmont: With playoff implications, and a chance to avenge an earlier loss to the Griffins, the Falcons suffered their second one-goal loss of the weekend. Kim paced the team with four goals, with sophomore TJ Tijerina (Bell Gardens HS) recording a pair of steals. De La Mora came up with several critical saves, and finished with 13, but it wasn't enough in the setback.
