Using a strong second quarter and a balanced scoring attack, the Cerritos College men's water polo team posted an 18-4 South Coast Conference win over host El Camino College on Wednesday. The win by the Falcons (11-10, 3-1) kept them in second place in the conference with one more game until the SCC Tournament. Prior to that, the team will compete in the Golden West Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Cerritos will host Ventura College at 11:00 a.m. and then another opponent before playing two more times at either Golden West College or the Falcon Aquatic Center.

Cerritos has faced Ventura twice this season and split a pair of 8-7 scores. The Pirates, along with Grossmont and a few other teams, are in a fight for a couple of post-season bids. The Griffins, who the Falcons have lost to twice this season, are also in the tournament and could possibly face each other.

In the win over the Warriors (2-11, 1-3), Cerritos took a 3-0 lead after the first quarter, but surrendered a pair of goals before scoring six straight to open a large lead they would not relinquish. Along the way, nine different players scored goals.

Freshman Michael Hanna (Cerritos HS) led the team with four goals, while sophmore Albert Kim (Cerritos HS) contributed three goals. The quartet of Marlon Moreno (Virgen del Rosario, Venezuela HS), Miguel Garcia (Montebello HS), Randy Baldwin (Buena Park HS/Fullerton College) and Joshua Owens (Kennedy HS) all scored twice, with sophomore TJ Tigerina (Bell Gardens HS) leading the defensive attack with four steals. Freshman goalkeeper Michael Asendorf (Sunny Hills HS) posted 10 saves in the win.
