In their first competition of the season, the Cerritos College men's cross country team placed fourth at the Redlands Invitational on Saturday. The Falcons, who had four of their runners finish in the top 20, compiled 83 team points and trailed South Coast Conference opponent Los Angeles Harbor College by just eight points. Next Saturday, the team will travel to central California to compete in the Fresno Invitational at Woodward Park, which will also serve as the course for the CCCAA State Championship.

Leading the way for Cerritos, who entered 12 runners, was freshman Luis Munoz (Downey HS), who completed the 6K race in a time of 19:59.36, which put him in eighth place out of 59 entries. His time was second in a pack of five runners that crossed the finish line within four seconds. He was followed by freshman Miguel Lopez (Downey HS), who took 15th place with his clocking of 20:12.70, while freshman teammate Alberto Cano (Norwalk HS) finished the course in 20:22.60, good for 17th place. The fourth Falcons runner was freshman Adrian Casas (Gahr HS), who took 20th place overall in a time of 20:33.70. Rounding out the team's top five runners that compiled their team score was freshman Ryan Bennett (California HS), whose time of 21:04.14 put him in 23rd place.

Also competing for the Falcons on the day were James Penn (Mayfair HS; 21:55.57; 35th place), Angel Chavarria (Western HS; 22:04.36; 38th place), Daniel Ramos (Warren HS; 22:21.93; 42nd place); Josiah Jackson (Mayfair HS; 22:27.83; 44th place); Aleksie Dominguez (St. Paul HS; 22:32.05; 47th place); Walter Ramirez (Mayfair HS; 23:25.86; 55th place) and Moises Rodriguez (El Rancho HS; 23:23.95; 57th place).
