The Cerritos College softball team drew 11 walks in their South Coast Conference game on Wednesday against Los Angeles Harbor College and saw eight of them come around to score. The Falcons, who scored 13 runs in the bottom of the fourth, recorded a 17-0, 5-inning win over the Seahawks to improve to 13-7 overall and 7-2 in conference. The team will now play a 2:00 p.m. conference game against Pasadena City College at Jackie Robinson Field on Thursday before embarking on a four-game tournament over the weekend at Bakersfield College.

The Falcons scored three times in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to an RBI double from freshman third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS), followed by a sacrifice fly from sophomore outfielder Julia Mendoza (Los Altos HS) and a run-scoring single from sophomore second baseman Gina Ayala (Santa Fe HS/University of Louisiana at Monroe). After a single run in the third inning, the team recorded their 13-run fourth inning.

In that stanza, all six walks they drew came home to score, with three of them bringing in runs. Sophomore first baseman Andrea Arellano (Downey HS) doubled home a pair of runs, while freshman pinch-hitter Haley Whitney (Warren HS) batted twice and drove in runs both times.

Sophomore pitcher Lily Cornejo (Paramount HS) picked up the win by pitching four innings of two-hit ball, with freshman Katherine Flores (El Rancho HS) tossing the fifth inning.

On the day, Arellano and Mendoza each scored three times and drove in a pair, while Ayala had three RBI on a pair of hits and two walks. Freshman Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored.
