Falcons drop 7-2 decision in season opener

The Cerritos College softball team dropped their second game in a row, as they were defeated by Riverside College, 7-3 on Friday. The Falcons (2-2), who played four games in the week, will now travel to Palomar College on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m., which will be the first of three straight games on the road in as many days.

Against the Tigers (2-0), the team surrendered a pair of first-inning runs, and after tying the game with two of their own in the top of the third inning, allowed three in the bottom of the stanza and were never able to get back on track.

Freshman Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) started in the circle for the Falcons and allowed four singles to the first five batters which accounted for both runs. She worked a solid second inning and was removed in the third inning after allowing a leadoff walk to Courtney Brown. Sophomore Kayla Klein (La Habra HS/Texas A&M University) came on and allowed a two-run home run to Katherine Macias, while an error led to the third run of the inning.

For the Falcons, they capitalized on a Tiger error in the third inning, which opened the door for two of their runs. Sophomore Andrea Arellano (Downey HS) singled home sophomore Regina Ayala (Santa Fe HS/University of Louisiana at Monroe), who reached on an error, while Ramirez helped her cause with a run-scoring single. Trailing 7-2 in the sixth inning, sophomore Aubrey Formano (St. Paul HS/Fullerton College) came home on a two-out single by Arellano, who went 2-for-4 on the day.
