Softball: Schedule set for Alumni Game

For the first time in her 11 seasons as the Cerritos College softball head coach, Kodee Murray will be unveiling her new team against a group of Alumni. On Saturday, January 19, the 2013 Falcons will open their season against a team comprised of former players after the new Nancy Kelly Field is dedicated.

At the conclusion of the 2012 season, the field was shut down for renovations and it will officially get dedicated prior to the start of the Alumni Game. The day's festivities start at 10:00 a.m. with a high school game featuring Mayfair High and Warren High, which will go for 90 minutes. Mayfair, coached by 2003 alum Erin Brown, will take on Warren High and Mary Starksen, who played for the Falcons in 1980. There will be a Home Run Derby at 11:30 a.m., with the field dedication to follow.

The alumni game is slated to start after the dedication, while the alums will be coached by the only other three coaches in Falcon history. Nancy Kelly, who coached Cerritos from 1976-98, will be joined by Collette Yonce (1999-2000) and Lynn Laughon (2001). Murray took over the program in 2002 and has posted a career coaching record of 353-126-2 with one state championship (2008) and five South Coast Conference titles.
