Leading 3-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Cerritos College softball team saw host Cypress College score the tying run and then won the game, 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning. The non-conference loss to the Chargers (20-4) dropped the Falcons to 19-9 on the year, who will travel to Compton on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. game against ECC Compton Center.

Cerritos took a 3-1 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single by freshman pitcher Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS), followed by a sacrifice fly from sophomore first baseman Andrea Arellano (Downey HS). But that lead would slip away when Cypress pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning against sophomore pitcher Kayla Klein (La Habra HS/Texas A&M University) and then won the game on a base hit by Chelsee Herron.

The game started with the Falcons taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when freshman outfielder Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second base on a single by Ramirez. She scored when freshman third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) singled to right field. Cerritos had a chance to score in the third inning when Ramirez and Arellano opened with consecutive base hits before a double play and fly out ended the threat.
